Barcelona Province Council (Spain)

Partner organisation Barcelona Province Council
Location Spain
Activities In the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona, a number of conflicts have emerged among the various interests in relation to land use. Coordination between the different levels and departments in the public administration can be improved and common policies strengthened in order to ensure sustainable land planning. Barcelona Province Council is implementing the SITxell project, a territorial information system, in order to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the province’s open areas and their values. The system incorporates the green infrastructure approach and has already been used in land analysis and planning by over 70 municipalities in the province and several departments of the Government of Catalonia Region. As a result, Barcelona Province Council brings valuable lessons learned to share with the Green Infrastructure Network.
